ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I feed my spirit by going to the mountains, getting dirty, pushing my limits. I became an environmental scientist because I am fascinated by the lessons of nature, with all her puzzles and intricacies. I am never happier than when ripping it up through fresh powder on a backcountry glade or sitting quietly on a ridgeline, taking in the stillness of it all.
Painting has always been a sacred activity for me. I paint primarily when inspired, and for that reason, have been able to maintain it as a gift. I find that when I work and when the colors and forms grab me, all else melts away. It is the place I go to seek solace and also to express my gratitude for this beautiful world.
Quite often, my art is inspired by the way I feel when I am outside – an awe of the still vast spaces, palattes of earthly tones, fractal patterns splayed across the landscape, jagged rising peaks, turquoise glacial waters, and undulated expanses of rust-stained desert sands. It is this essence that I try to instill in my paintings.
